Acton Wastewater Treatment Facility
Fire Protection System
Location:
20 Adams Road, Acton, MA
GGD Consulting Engineers served as the prime consultant providing comprehensive fire protection and electrical engineering design services for the full replacement of the fire protection system at the Wastewater Treatment Facility. The work included the replacement of the existing dry fire protection system serving the facility. The project required the complete removal of the existing automatic sprinkler system – including all piping and sprinkler heads – back to the existing backflow preventer at the fire service entrance, with all removed components properly disposed of.
The new system design delivers 100% automatic sprinkler coverage throughout the building, including closets, telecommunications rooms, and electrical rooms. The upgraded protection features a wet pipe sprinkler system throughout the occupied building and a dry pipe sprinkler system in the attic, supported by new wet and dry alarm valves. All systems were engineered in full compliance with NFPA 13 to ensure optimal performance, safety, and long-term reliability.
Construction was carefully coordinated to allow the facility to remain fully occupied and operational throughout the project, requiring strategic phasing and close communication to maintain safety and continuity of operations.
